The Story of a Nation

Bluecadet’s work for the Museum of the American Revolution exemplifies how digital storytelling and interactive design can effectively convey historical narratives, making the past accessible and engaging for a contemporary audience.

The interaction states named — TIMELINE ITEM SELECT · TIMELINE · Zoom · BACK · DRAG. A Zoom level between the ruler and the item, so the timeline had three depths rather than two.

Overview

01 / Problem
Years before its building opened in 2017, the American Revolution Center, later the Museum of the American Revolution, needed a web presence built from its collection.
02 / Design Challenge
As Bluecadet's Lead Developer, Russ designed the interactions and built the timeline, working from the visual designers' mockups.
03 / Approach
Artifacts float over a timeline that runs through the war and on to the museum's own founding, and a private's letter home carries the same weight as Saratoga. His hand-drawn spec calls for "drag w/ modulo," a scroll that loops without end.
04 / Outcome
Captures of the finished timeline survive; no launch or visitor data does.
